My Jianü, the lovely Gina Listello, and I have begun developing an MMORPG. You can find out all about it here:

That is all.

Welcome to my blog. I'm Ben, a guy who goes out of his way to think differently than the others around him; even if the others are right. Whether right or wong, my thoughts are usually (or, rather, unusually) unique. And now the whole world gets to read them.
Also, the background/theme will probably be changing repeatedly over the course of this month, so don't be alarmed if this place suddenly looks totally different. It's still me, still my thoughts; just a different style.

You and your girlfriend are developing an MMORPG… that is just awesome.
Though I haven’t played too many MMORPG, I love space based games; it brings up fond memories of playing Alpha Centauri, Spaceward Ho and TradeWars.
This sounds like it’s going to be a great game and it’s going to be fun seeing it develop and come to fruition.
The story background behind the game is interesting.
At first, I was little thrown off by “zombies” being mentioned in the same context as space, likely due to my perception of zombies but I’ve warmed up to the idea.
Typical humans, what is it with them and their failure to make robots that don’t end up attempting (and succeeding) in killing us all?
Anyway, wiping out humans is a bold and great move.
It is always fun to play a game without humans as the protagonist, a break from being the hero and saving ‘the galaxy’ from aliens and a break from human concepts and ideas in general.
I can’t wait to see what was put together for the ten alien races.
I’ve got some thoughts on alien races as a whole, but I’m going to wait to see what you’ve come up with first before voicing them (especially as they may be irrelevant).
I’m a web developer, programmer and a computer geek since diapers (literally) so there are also tons of technical questions floating around in my mind; I’ll try to restrain myself to only a few.
What language are you creating the game in?
Are you using strictly web based technologies or are you using desktop based game clients?

P.S. What kind of… no, no more questions, restraint was promised! =p

We’re very happy that you’re interested in our brainchild. We appreciate your support and encouragement, as well as your warming up to the zombies. Ben has always been concerned about a robotic takeover, and it fit quite well, so we decided to use it. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the concept even more when you see what we’ve done with it.
We think you’ll really enjoy a galaxy completely devoid of humanity, in the most literal sense. We put a lot of work into the new races, and it will definitely show in the final product, and even the upcoming news releases. We had a lot of fun creating them, and you’ll have a lot of fun playing as them.
We can definitely relate to the computer geek in you! However, we’re unable to reveal many details at this time, but we can tell you that we are planning for a desktop client. Although we have had a recognizable amount of programming experience, we have never done anything of this scope. So, if you’d like to send some friendly advice for starting up, we’d be more than happy to take it.
Also note that you are welcome to ask as many questions as you’d like. We plan to do a Q and A session with our supporters once things pick up.
Thank you for your support. There will be more information available to you soon.

If I could give you two tips they would be:
1. Design and brainstorm first, worry about code later.
It is important that you never limit your ideas due to it, at the time, seeming to ‘difficult to code’ or some other technological reason.
Designing and planning out all the aspects of the game is arguably the best part of making a computer game (besides actually seeing the game come to life).
2. Never, *ever* trust client side data!
In any multiplayer game, the main server should verify everything that the client wants to do.
If the client says they move their ship to the planet Zeebron, the server checks that the player is indeed near the planet Zeebron.
If the client trades 100 units of metal for 2,000 gold, the server checks that the player actually has 100 units of metal.
Hopefully keeping this in mind at the beginning will help you avoid coding and hacker headaches in the future.
I would say that a MMORPG is without a doubt, one of the toughest genres to program but I think you both have the talent, intelligence and dedication it takes to bring this project fully to life and I am looking forward to following Reign of the Maasken on it’s journey.

Thanks for the suggestions. We’re definitely concentrating on designing first – we might have to worry about problems with programming later, but that just isn’t a good idea to cut things out right now.
2 is definitely something very important to keep in mind. We’re definitely going to take that suggestion.
Thanks for the words of encouragement. The project is coming along smoothly, and there is plenty of information yet to come.
